This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are from low income families that are of Hispanic and African-American descent. Most of the students speak two languages and struggle with the transitions between the languages. Some students can not afford basic school supplies, get a good night sleep, concentrate on their educational success due to home issues that some adults never have to think about. It is my job to provide a safe and effective environment for a successful academic future.
I focus on each of my students' needs through small group and one on one work.
It is my goal to keep students engaged and focused while in small groups. I have to be very creative with this due to our schools limited funding for extra materials. These materials would help my students stay focused and productive during their center time.
My Project
Every student needs to learn basic writing skills. Some students struggle with this more than others. These flip books with not only guide sentence and writing structure but keep students focused on each step in the writing process. It will help teach them how a sentence and story they have written flow just like the stories we read in class. Sentence structure and organization is very difficult for some students and with these flip books, each student will have their own personal guide for every sentence they write. Creating their own personal masterpiece and building their self confidence as a writer. It will also build lifelong writing skills they will need in their future.
