My students need folders that will not only hold and organize their music, but will last longer than the cardboard folders they have now.

My Students
Being in a Title I school has its challenges. Students come to us from a wide variety of socioeconomic situations. There are some that have next to nothing and school is their only escape from the hardships of their lives at home. Though there are many challenging situations, the vast majority of them all have something in common... they are crazy about learning music.
We are fortunate enough to have an administration that has resisted the urge to replace arts classes with more ELA and Math classes, and as a result the school community has thrived.
Students come in each day excited to play their instruments and see what else they are capable of doing. Students who otherwise wouldn't find success, are knowing what it feels like to succeed. They are special because they walk in eager to learn and eager to push themselves, something they probably wouldn't know how to do otherwise.
My Project
The students walk into their band class so excited to learn. The music they play is an inspiration not only to them, but their families and the community at large when we perform at concerts. Each student has music that is distributed to them specific to their instrument. Trumpet players will have the Trumpet parts as do the Alto Saxes have the Alto Sax parts. The way we distribute the music is placing it in their marked folio cabinet spot in a cardboard folder with their names on them.
The cardboard folders we have now are given to us each year by Music and Arts, the music store that services our school; they get the job done, but there are some problems with them.
Firstly, it takes a couple of weeks to get enough folders delivered to the school every year. Schools in the area are making similar requests for folders and they often run out quickly. In the meantime we are having band rehearsals without folders and music often gets lost, delaying the learning process as music is redistributed. Secondly, throughout the course of the year the cardboard folders begin to fray and rip, causing students to either lose their entire folder, or throw it out, creating similar redistributing problems.
These folders we are asking for will provide a more permanent home for their music. They will be here at the beginning of each year, and they will last not just for the whole year, but years to come, servicing hundreds of more students with each passing year. In addition, the folders will be professional looking, and will give the students a sense of pride when they walk out on stage with sharp looking folders instead of flimsy ripped ones.
