Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

First of all, since 3rd grade is divided into 2 blocks, each group of students will switch at some point during the day to their math classes. Therefore, they have to transition from one classroom to another along with their supplies, and it is something that can be troublesome. This is why I believe the boxes with a lid and handle are perfect for this issue. They can put inside their Chromebook, notebooks, pencil case and such comfortably, and most important, keep them safe. In my first year teaching, I noticed that this was a problem for all my kids, where they dropped their stuff almost every day, not only damaging important elements, but also risking an injury.

Furthermore, due to the dynamics that we have in 3rd grade, where kids will flex by transitioning to a certain teacher during small groups in math class, I have found it important to create a space where the students feel a change in their daily routine, and one aspect that is key is the way they sit.

By providing a different way to get comfortable to work, with some wobble stools, the kids will break that routine that may be repetitive and increase their engagement in the activity.

Also, alongside the flexible seating, it is indispensable to have LCD boards for the kids, they are extremely easy to use and they last longer than whiteboards with dry-erase markers.

Lastly, as my school is Title I, the majority of my learners come from unprivileged families, so basic supplies like a pencil case are often not provided at home. Hence, I feel it is important to provide each kid with a pencil case for them to keep their things organized and available whenever they need.
