This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 2nd graders love being back in the classroom and learning. Many of the students come from a high-poverty, inner-city neighborhood. Most of them speak English as a second language. Although the majority of my students face many challenges, they are always eager to learn. Despite the fact that our school provides many of the supplies to our students, additional supplies are needed. Knowing the backgrounds of my students and community, I often purchase additional supplies and resources for them each year.

My Project

After a year of distance learning and remaining still in front of a screen, my students need the ability to be engaged in small groups and have the choice of working elsewhere in the classroom. The portable lap desks that I'm requesting allow them to do just that and remain engaged.

The benefit of flexible seating is that our class will become a more student-centered classroom.

For many of my students, they remain at school all day and are very limited to movement. By allowing flexible seating, students will have an increased sense of independence through choice, movement, and continue being engaged and active learners in the classroom.
