Flexing Our Creativity through Game and Movie Making

My Students

Out in the high desert of northwestern New Mexico lies a class of incredibly talented, curious, and kind students. These students have dreams that extend far beyond the dusty mesa landscapes of the Four Corners. At the heart of their ambition is realizing a challenging, relevant, and engaging education.

Our school exists in a unique space - on the border of the largest American Indian reservation, and also containing a very ethnically diverse student body.

We value diversity and learn from each other as much as we learn from our curriculum. I hope you can help my deserving students cultivate a love of learning and achieve their ambitions by supporting our classroom!

My Project

As a STEM teacher, I am in a unique and valuable position to enrich students' creativity and critical thinking skills. By not being bound to a curriculum, I am able to explore high-interest topics, such as finance, forensic science, and computer modeling.

Game and movie design is an engaging and challenging endeavor that helps students sharpen these skills.

Students learn to collaborate and are able to sprinkle their own interests into creating something they can 'own' and be proud of. Additionally, these skills will help students think of careers down the line which involve creativity and production.

The Lego and Bloxels kits allow students to make stop motion videos and their own video game levels, tangibly using materials, and then translating to a digital version that they can edit and share. Additionally, we have been working on developing our own board games - the Evolution board game is a great collaborative game to illustrate science concepts/vocabulary, and the Spot It games will be used as part of a daily warm up to sharpen visual pattern recognition.
