My Students

I teach in a huge urban school district at a Title I school where 100% of the students receive free lunch and breakfast. My school has 762 students from all different backgrounds. In a district that is struggling financially, it is my struggle to make sure my students receive an education that does not reflect the lack of funding that is our reality. We have created a home away form home, a place where learning is fun. My goal is to start them on their educational path with the right academic tools that will allow them to be successful in the upcoming years of school. This is important since for most of my students, I am their first experience with school. "Kindergarten is key" is our motto.

My Project

Students who struggle with attention, need to move to help them focus. The addition of these 6 wobble stools to our classroom will benefit not only the students who struggle, with focus but all students. Students will be able to wiggle while they work, allowing them to safely move without falling or distracting others. Research supports the use of alternative seating as it will help support oxygen flow to the brain, core strength and overall posture.

Our classroom is transitioning toward alternative seating.

When these stools arrive, students will have the option to choose the seating that best meets their individual needs for whatever activity we are working on. Students may choose traditional chairs, the wobble stools, or carpet squares.
