Picture this, it is the Friday before coming back from Spring Break in 2020 and you are so excited to get back to school to see your friends and teachers. Then without much of a notice, your parents come in to let you know you won't be going back the next week. That next week turns into another week, and another week, then it becomes the rest of the year. Your classroom is now your home.
This was the reality for many of our students the past two years.
The uncertainty of not knowing will we continue to have school with our friends and teachers, or will we be forced inside again. Many of my students still have this fear when we go on breaks.
I want to create a room where my students feel that they can escape from the uncertainty in this world. Many of my students can't learn in the traditional desk and chair setting anymore. These students need the freedom to move around the room to help them accomplish their tasks. My students have been through so much in the last two years, and it is time to give back to them.
My Project
Do you realize how expensive headphones are? The really good headphones are expensive, and the headphones that may fit in our budget break within a few weeks of school starting. Many of my students have to have an extremely quiet work environment to focus. These headphones will help to quiet down the excess noise and allow them to focus more on their work.
By updating my flexible seating in my classroom, my students will be able to take charge of their own learning and allow them to move out of the traditional desk and chair learning.
Many of my students need the freedom to move around like they did once their homes became their classrooms due to COVID 19. During independent work times they will be able choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Making sure students are comfortable in my classroom is an essential component in motivating them.
