My Project
My students are eager to come to school and learn. We do a lot of collaboration and partner work at our table groups and the whole group rug area, which works great! But at the start of this year, I had several students who often had difficulty focusing during independent work time, getting distracted by other students at their table or just being fidgety sitting in their chairs (even on the wobble chairs!). So I provided them an alternative place to work rather than staying at their desk, like at the back table, or on the rug, using the floor seats and bean bags that generous donors have funded for my class in the past. They focused so much better and completed their work!
I would like to give my ALL of my students more options to work in different areas on different kinds of seating.
For example, the bean bag chairs can be tucked into different corners. The chair rockers give movement opportunities during extended independent work/reading times. Students can also sit at the storage ottomans that fit perfectly at a table that is low to the ground. In addition, I am requesting a set of Ricky Ricotta books, a favorite book series of some of my students who are making huge gains by voraciously reading high-interest books. With all of these choices, every student will be able to work independently and do their best this year in 3rd grade!
