My Project
I believe that when students have control of their environment, they will feel empowered! Being able to move helps with focus and alertness in the classroom. I will be working with special education students, grades Kindergarten-3rd. Like all students, mine have unique preferences and needs. I am hoping to create an environment where children are willing to take risks, work collaboratively, and pursue learning about their passions in a space they help create.
By providing a variety of spaces and seating options, flexible seating can ignite creativity and encourage students to use different learning styles.
This can be especially important to encourage learners to do in-depth exploration and innovative thinking. Flexible seating will also help encourage autonomy and ownership in my classroom. This is especially important because my students will be leaving their general education classrooms part-time to come for services in my classroom, and I want them to feel equally at ease, accepted, and comfortable in both environments.
