My students need flexible seating to help them focus throughout the day. Options for seating include, wobble chairs, sensory seat cushions, and fidget bands.
My classroom serves 50 4th-5th graders. The school is in a high poverty area. The majority of the students come from at-risk families and homes. All students at my school receive free lunch. Many of my students face challenges outside of school, my goal is to provide them with a nurturing environment where they know they are safe and cared for. They look forward to coming to school each day. My students are curious, energetic, fun, kind, and hard-working. They love interacting and collaborating. Teachers and staff at my school are always looking for ways to inspire, motivate, and engage all students
My Project
Students spend seven hours a day sitting in their classroom. To support the growth of my students throughout the day, I want to provide them several different seating options within our classroom environment. Everyone should be comfortable and given the freedom to move about in order to complete their work.
Wobble chairs will allow students to listen while supporting the physical needs of their body to move.
The sensory seat cushions will provide sensory stimulation that will also increase student focus. The fidget bands allow for my students to move their feet without being out of their seat. I also have students with sensory issues who will benefit from the ear protection, to help drown out classroom noises during independent learning times. With several flexible seating options for my students, they are able to experiment and support their needs for ultimate growth and discover how they learn best.
