This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

CPS have had some troubling times the past few years. I know that I would give anything to my students to make their days and years easier and less troubling in this challenging time and place. I work in a CPS where 97% of the students are on free and reduced lunch.

My students come from an urban area and a public school where the majority are facing the monumental challenges of poverty.

While my school has approximately 500 students, the community is extremely tight knit and I feel lucky to work with these individuals. My students are unique and genuinely are excited to learn. They have grown tremendously in the past few years despite the challenges they face daily. I am excited to continue to add to their knowledge and change their lives for the better.

My Project

As a student, I really struggled to sit still and in a seat like we were all required. As a teacher, I love sitting in many different kinds of seats, or not sitting at all.

My biggest struggle with desks and chairs in my classroom is that my students don't have nearly as much choices as I would like.

Adding flexible seating to my classroom would completely change my students learning experience. Everyone learns differently, and for my students to be able to respectfully and responsibly choose a comfortable seat to do their best learning... would make such a different in their lives.

I want them to look back on their year in my 3rd grade class and remember feeling safe, having fun, and learning a ton.
