Help me give my students flexible seating options! First graders have a lot of energy and need to be able to get their wiggles out. These seating options will help us wiggle AND stay focused!

My Project

Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Students choose to sit at different tables (with a variety of heights) or sit/lay on a carpet spot. Having choice motivates their learning, especially when they can try out different seats. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating.

They are more engaged and focused, which helps them get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk.

The wobble stools and yoga balls will allow students to sit at different tables and allow much needed movement to stay engaged. It will benefit their time in small group with the teacher during reading and writing. In addition, the wave chairs and floor cushions will provide another seating choice during independent or partner work time.

I have seen how choice can positively affect my students' work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
