My Project
Hello! My name is Lillian McAfee, I am a first year teacher and recent graduate from Indiana University. Throughout my college education I had always envisioned my room having flexible seating options. Being in 2nd grade it has become very apparent to me that kids need to move their bodies, whether that be wobbling, bouncing, or standing. Flexible seating allows for them to express their movements and promote student engagement!
I have been able to observe a variation of flexible seating options throughout all grade levels within my school.
The seats within my wishlist are those of which I believe are the most beneficial and engaging to my age group of students. I have been able to see how these flexible seats are to be taken care of and used within the classroom. For my room, I plan to have the flexible seats as rotations and students are able to move each week to a different type of seat.
The seats I chose are equitable for all my students who have different needs. I find that having these new seating arrangements will increase engagement and development among students who have a harder time sitting still. These seats will help students physically move their bodies and stimulate those smart brains!
