Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach only students with disabilities who are on an individualized educational program. My students range from having learning disabilities in math and/or reading and writing to students on the autism spectrum.
Due to my students' specific academic struggles, most students have struggled during COVID.
Many students are lacking prerequisite skills.
We need to be sure students catch up and do not fall further behind. These students need opportunities to practice basic skills.
My Project
Children need to move. Flexible seating allows them options for different types of seating, away from the traditional desk, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. In turn, this ability o move, increases metabolism. Movement throughout a lesson helps keep young minds more alert and focused.
Students with ADHD specifically can benefit immensely from different forms of seating.
Allowing these students opportunities to move while learning, helps them stay engaged in the lesson and content. It also can prevent many behavior issues because students are more comfortable and less bored.
