My Students
My students are eager and fun-loving learners, especially in our math classes! They are always very excited to use technology to build their math problem-solving skills or to try a new way of learning, even if that new way of learning is dancing to a song about place value or learning how to code, or build models.
My school has a large number of students who live in poverty and receive free or reduced-price lunch.
My school is a place where students often feel safer than anywhere else. They receive two meals a day, heat, and electricity. Most importantly, my students are surrounded by caring teachers that believe in their abilities. It is very important to me that my students have the same opportunities as their peers.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to find a learning space that works best for them. A lot of my students have trouble with staying in one place, and find it difficult to focus when stationary. The first question that comes up when I announce we will be working in groups is "Can we move around the room?". The groups will quickly come to an agreement and settle in a spot; currently, those spots are laying on yoga mats, under our computer tables, or against walls.
Finding that special space in the room to do group work helps students not only focus, but quickly discuss and agree what the best place is for their team to be most productive.
I have noticed a big difference in focus and motivation when I brought in my yoga mats. Students are more engaged and less "fidgety". The products that I have selected will allow them to find their special places not only while doing group work, but when doing independent work too, and it will give them a choice they have to make.
