Flexible Seating

Help me give my students flexible seating options because I have found that some students learn better by sitting at a table in a rolling chair instead of at a traditional desk.

My Students

I love that my students are eager to learn and appreciate my planning of instruction that engages them in the mathematical concepts required for our courses. I currently have ninth graders who are very active and still like to "move" while learning. I would be excited to be able to increase the number of flexible seating options for these kids. I gave a learning styles inventory the first day of class and found that 50% of my students are kinesthetic learners who would benefit from being able to move while learning.

My Project

Research proves that students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment. Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with whom. It also allows them to change their location and positions as needed. Flexible seating also encourages students to find their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive. I have a table in my classroom without any chairs and wanted to provide 2 extra flexible seating spots with mesh back computer chairs in my classroom for my students. I saw success from 2 students this past semester and would like to increase the number of students that can benefit from this option.
