My students are engaged, curious and love hands-on learning. They are full of wonder and enjoy having great conversations about various topics. My students love technology and love to create. Project based learning is always a favorite and I just love to see their visions and hard work come to fruition.
Each child in my class loves to learn!
However, learning styles vary and I firmly believe that when students have choice and flexibility when it comes to their learning they take ownership and begin to thrive. I have seen so many students over the course of my 17 years teaching, and now more than ever they need to figure out how they learn best in order to be successful.
My Project
Last year, I incorporated flexible seating into my classroom. I purchased exercise balls, cushions, wobble stools and different types of chairs for my classroom. The students absolutely loved it! They were able to find the best seat for them to work in where they could concentrate and do their best work.
Students quickly discovered if they worked best on an exercise ball or sitting on the floor or even sitting in a standard desk and chair.
The students were able to move around without being a distraction. I found that my students were more engaged in lessons and were able to "get their wiggles out" all while learning and staying focused on the lesson.
The one choice of flexible seating that I am missing are standing desks. Some kids really need to stand while they work, and standing at a desk that is meant for sitting at just doesn't work. I have been looking at these standing desks for quite some time now, but they are expensive and I just can't swing it. Any help at all would be forever appreciated.
