My Students

My students love to learn. They look forward to coming to school everyday to take on new challenges. They are such an intelligent group of students and I am grateful for the opportunity to facilitate their learning daily. My students are problem solvers. They can concentrate, and work harder when they are comfortable. They love to work together and find a space that works best for them. If they are given flexible seating opportunities they stay engaged and push to reach their goals. They love to take ownership of their learning. They are full of energy, laughter, and need space to spread out!

My Project

Flexible seating gives students the chance to spread out and get into their own thinking space. Just like adults, kids need to find their zone where they can do their best work. During independent work times they would be able to choose a location in the class that works best for them. Right now students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in the room such as: sitting under tables with clip boards, they also often sit or lay on carpets or pillows with clipboards. Helping to ensure kids are comfortable is a great way to motivate them. I have always noticed improvements in student behavior, grades, and engagement when they are given the chance to sit where they want.
