Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are vibrant, challenging, inquisitive and loving children doing the best that they can on any given day. They are full of smiles and cheer and have personalities that will melt your heart. They come from low income homes but have hearts filled with love and hope. They deserve everything that I can give them and then some. Many of them experience life's daily struggles and have difficulty coming to school. They are only four and five years old, and for many this is their first time in a school setting.

Our school is 100% free breakfast and lunch.

We have the highest rate of ELLs (English Language Learners) in the state and have a high number of special education students. My class has students with a range of disabilities including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities. They deserve to have a great first year of school!

My Project

I want to provide a classroom where students are comfortable in their own chair. I currently have one of these amazing Hokki stools in our class. However, with a class of 23 students, having only one of these stools is not enough. With having an active class, these additional stools would encourage students to twist and wiggle while learning.

Movement is natural and is a basic need of all children.

Students should be allowed and even encouraged to stand, bounce, shift, twist, and wiggle if needed. These three additional stools would support this need.

This project will help my classroom and allow for more flexible seating. Thank you in advance for being part of our classroom and believing in the importance of movement!
