Mrs. James from Bossier City LA is requesting flexible seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need flexible seating options. Sitting in a desk and chair for 8 hours, is not an ideal or comfortable learning environment.

I teach at a Title I school in Louisiana. I am a second grade teacher with 22 students, all of different academic levels, demographics, and needs. 100% of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. Sometimes, their needs are far more than just academics. Despite the struggles, my students are eager to learn each and everyday!
My goal as a teacher is to create a warming environment.
I want my students to want to come to school. I want they to feel save and valued. Along with that, I want them to be as successful as possible. One way I believe will help my students is flexible seating options.
As a teacher, I want my students to be successful and I will do whatever I can to make sure of that!
Recently, we had the privilege of an in-service about UDL (Universal Design for Learning). During the in-service, one take-away was flexible seating. As teachers, we are expecting these students to sit at a desk and chair for 8 hours. Flexible seating, as described by Wikipedia: “A flexible seating classroom is one in which traditional seating charts are replaced with seating arrangements that allow the students to sit where they choose. One of its principal objectives is to reduce the number/duration of sedentary periods of time, which research has identified as a danger to health.”
