My students are very active! They love to get up and move away from their desks to work in different locations. I would love to incorporate some more alternative seating for my students that like a change of pace when it comes to learning. Many of my students prefer to move away from their desks, either to sit on the floor or in my classroom reading loft. The loft, however, only provides enough room for 5 students. My students would love to have a few more options to make their learning more comfortable and fun!
My Project
For some of my students, my classroom is their safe haven because their home may not be. It is important for me to create a comfortable, cozy environment that my students feel safe to learn in. In addition, it’s important to provide options for the students that don’t operate well at a typical chair and desk set-up. Believe it or not, that’s a larger number of students in today’s world. I do not even operate well at a normal chair and desk! I have set up a standing desk for myself, and it has done wonders for my productivity. Imagine if that happened for every student!
Some specific items that would benefit my students include little stools that can be moved anywhere in the room, bean bag chairs that provide extra seating and coziness that some students may not have at home, and several seats specifically made for students with ADD/ADHD.
I would love to add additional seating in my classroom that is not your everyday desk and chair set-up. This would allow my students to get up and choose where they want to sit so that they can learn however is best for them. This would also help students with ADD/ADHD because they would be moving more often, and as they learn.
