Flexible Seating

My students need special seating, Wobble Chairs, in order to fulfill their unique learning needs. High trauma students need room for movement; flexible seating will be the best arrangement for our students to succeed.

My Students

Our school serves grades K-6 that includes the highest trauma and poverty stricken children in the area. These students with each and every different case, learn in many different ways and attain very unique needs that most students do not require at their age. Out particular school was just nominated for the highest homeless rate among elementary school age children. When our students come to school, they receive free breakfast and lunch, in which is almost the only meals they get during the day. We provide differentiated instruction for almost 400 very high trauma kiddos.

It is our job as teachers to provide and maximize an abundant and enriching learning environment.

All students deserve to experience and utilize several resources within the classroom no matter what type of background they come from. Our students with high trauma and given our area normally are not exposed to materials that other schools can provide. With that being said, these kids have different needs and still deserve those resources if not more to maximize their learning experience.

My Project

Our students, as previously stated, come from very high trauma; with that being said, their needs can be a lot different from those students that come from more stable living situations. Therefore, our students are quite active and need room to move when needed. After extensive research on flexible seating, I feel as though this will be the best opportunity for my students to grow as an individual and a student academically. In a normal setting, students can sit for a long period of time for lessons; however, our students come in very anxious and need space to stand, sit, move, stretch etc. so this will allow them to comfortably do so without it being a behavioral management issue.

Underprivileged students deserve to have the same if not more resources as other schools; it is our job as a teacher to maximize their learning experience no matter what type of situation they come from!

Studies show that flexible seating can improve student learning and engagement. I want to give these students all the opportunities and resources in order to guide their success!

With that being said, giving students opportunities to have a choice throughout the classroom with Wobble Chairs will not only boost confidence but also their work etiquette. Having their own space to move around the room and work in an area of their choice will allow students to focus and work harder as they will be comfortable with the seat or area of their choice. We are hoping to boost academic stamina and grades from allowing students to have more choices within the classroom.
