My students walk into our classroom every day bright-eyed, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day.
I teach at a Title I school where the students are characterized as low income and come from a variety of different backgrounds.
At this school, 100% of the students receive free breakfast and over 63% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of my students receive backpack food on the weekend, and our school also runs a clothing donation program for our families. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful.
My Project
Reading is a daily activity in my classroom. Most students sit at their desks but find it hard to get into a comfortable position as they read a good book. Second grade students need comfort and the ability to move from all the energy their little bodies hold. A child is not meant to be idle all day. With flexible seating my students can move, read and learn in the same environment. Additionally, my students need chapter books to boost their reading abilities. Important instruction and opportunity is missed from not having books at every level. With the flexible seating and chapter books I am requesting, students will be able to relax for their age level and read at a differentiated stage. This will allow students to focus on increasing their learning!
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, but you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material while being active and not distract themselves in negative ways to move.
In this fast-track world, any interaction with updated materials and methods will increase their literacy as well as their desire to learn and read new books!
