This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Help me access outdoor learning and give my students the option to learn in different areas in the classroom with the Surf Portable Lap Desk.

My first graders are from a rural community and over 50% are low socio economic and English Learners.

They are very active and excited to learn.

My students need the opportunity to get up and move around the classroom. Much of our daily instruction is done in small groups, and having the Surf Portable Lap Desk would enable me to quickly and easily rearrange the classroom to create a dynamic collaborative environment to meet my students' learning needs. Studies have shown that students in classrooms with flexible seating demonstrate increased engagement, improved behavior, and enhanced academic achievement.

Additionally, it would be great to be able to take the students outside to do their learning as our weather permits this for over half the year. Outdoor learning helps students get much-needed time away from screens and gives them a healthy dose of fresh air. Studies have shown that students who go outside to learn have higher test scores, fewer behavioral problems, and are healthier.

Creating that just right classroom environment is something I strive to achieve. Please help me to achieve this goal!
