I have always taught in an urban district. These students come from a low income population. Many of them struggle to keep a stable home life, often being removed from parents and placed in the care of another. What I have found is that no matter a child's background or socioeconomic status they all crave the stability of school and the comfort of school.
Students come in with a desire to learn and an excitement for school; by the upper grades they feel as if they do not matter.
Students are traditionally forced to sit in uncomfortable chairs and desks for the majority of their class day. Students have provided feedback that this is not their preferred way to spend the day.
Using student feedback; I want to supply our room with options for seating that will make students more comfortable and ready to learn!
This flexible seating will be made up of stools for group seating at tables. Bungee chairs with lap desks that are easy to store when out of use and simple to keep clean. Yoga balls to help students who move active stay focused without distracting others.
