My Students

Welcome to my page! My students are bright and blossoming six, seven, and eight year olds that are ready to dive into second grade! In second grade students transition from learning to read to loving to read! They also transition from simple number sense to using algorithms and properties in math! Students in my classroom come from an array of different backgrounds from all around the world and have different needs including English language learners, students with special needs, and from low-income backgrounds. Students arrive to school each day determined to persevere through the rigorous curriculum, encouraging each other along the way, and becoming closer to a family each day!

My Project

As adults, we know that we are all different and have different needs and wants. This is also true of the students in my 2nd grade classroom! Some students prefer to sit in traditional chairs with desks, while others would prefer to sit on the floor with a portable tray or clipboard, and others at a low table sitting on a yoga ball. These materials will allow my students to make choices about which seats and areas of the classroom are best for their own learning.

When students are given the opportunity to make choices and take ownership over their own learning they can really thrive in their learning environment and take pride of their work and choices.
