This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from diverse backgrounds. We have over 5 cultures represented in our class and three different home language spoken. My students come from working class families where most parents work full time out of necessity.
Even though my class is filled with students with a range of reading levels, they all have one thing in common.
Gaining new knowledge. They love to read stories and listen to stories. They're always asking when we're going to go to the library, can they write me a story or asking when I am going to finish the read-aloud. They also look forward to STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activities. They love making connections to our projects to real world experiences and technology.
My Project
Having several exercise balls and wobble chairs will help my very antsy 3rd graders focus. Students won't have tons of extra energy to burn because they'll be focused on keeping their chair still. The chairs will also help to increase blood flow to the brain and improve posture.
The chairs will be placed around the room in various learning stations.
As students move from station to station during reading and math workshop, they'll have the opportunity to pick a wobble chair or exercise ball as their seat of choice. Or they may stick with a traditional chair or even a pillow.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
