Help me give my students an adaptable learning environment that fits my variety of learners. The headphones and balance balls help students with extra energy focus more on their learning.
My twenty-seven, incredibly enthusiastic and engaged learners, are from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. We have built a community, where all opinions are valued and respected. We have learned to have productive discussions honoring each other's differences. Our parent, teacher, and student community is very supportive, it and has been instrumental in developing the whole child. You would not believe the dedication of the entire community in the lives of these students.
Representing many cultures and ethnicities, my students bring together unique perspectives and work well collaboratively.
By creating a safe and accepting environment, students eagerly enter the classroom, each day, full of curiosity and questions. We work collaboratively, while still challenging each other, in order to come up with a unique solution. Preparing students for the new jobs of the 21st century, I would like to continue to create a productive learning environment.
My Project
Last year, I tested flexible seating in the classroom. Empowering students to choose a seat that is appropriate for their learning style resulted in a more productive learning environment. Students were more focused during independent and group work, as well as being engaged during projects and group discussions.
I found that offering the option of exercise balls my discipline issues dramatically decreased, allowing more time for student engagement and discussions.
Since many students gravitate to and benefit from the exercise balls, I wanted to increase this option from one I currently have in my classroom to 6. The benefit of the Gariam balance balls is the built-in stands. With the stands, we do not need a separate piece to stabilize the ball, and the balls do not roll away every time a student stands.
In addition, we have increased our student count by two and I need one more headset for our additional students. This enables students to work on different audio projects at the same time.
All of these items will empower my students to make responsible choices and become more productive. These are both very important life skills.
