My students need flexible seating, including stability balls, portable desks, textured floor cushions, and bungee chairs to help them have access to physical movement while engaging in classroom learning.
I work at an elementary with a very high poverty population. We receive so much wonderful community support but we are often left needing important materials in order to make our classrooms as successful as possible. I teach a class of kindergarten students who love to learn.
My students are wonderful kindergartners that need flexible classroom seating to allow them some much needed physical movement while they engage and learn!
Kindergartners are young children and often need physical movement throughout the day to help keep their minds engaged. Over the past several years the academic requirements for kindergarten have become more and more rigorous. My students love to learn and do classroom activities but often struggle to sit still throughout such a long, academically challenging, school day. Flexible seating would allow them the opportunity to move their bodies in such a way that they could stay engaged and continue learning, while receiving the needed physical movement.
My students love to learn and I love watching them grow. This flexible seating would allow them to be even more engaged each day. It would also help our classroom be appropriate for young learners!
This flexible seating project will allow my students the option of choosing a place to sit at various points throughout the day. During independent work time, such as writing, and independent reading work, students will be allowed to chose a flexible seating option. This project would provide multiple options for students to choose from and procedures in place would ensure that students would be able to experience a different type of seating each day. Some choices, like the stability balls and bungee chairs, would allow students to remain at a table if they chose while other choices, like the portable desks and textured cushions, would allow them to create a work space at any child-friendly place in our classroom.
By choosing to donate to my project you will be allowing my students the ability to make choices about aspects of their learning, and enable them to incorporate physical movement into their academic work.
Flexible seating allows young children the ability to do some physical movement while they work. It removes the constraints of a traditional desk and chair for some parts of the school day. This option to move around and flex their muscles helps their minds to remain engaged and complete their work. Additionally, although it is a small choice, giving my students choices throughout the day about things like where they will sit for certain times, helps build their decision making abilities and gives them control of their learning. As students get older they will need these important skills.
Thank you for considering to donate to this project. My students would be so excited to be given the opportunity to experience flexible seating in our classroom. It would strengthen their bodies, engage their minds, and help them practice some independence in the classroom!
