Flexible Seating to Encourage Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving
My students need flexible seating options to provide a safe and welcoming learning environment where they can reach their highest potential. They need stools, inflatable balance ball, chairs and donut balls, foldable seats.
Help me close the achievement gap for my low-income/high poverty students who will not have the chance to experience many 21st Century skills if not at school. School-wide data shows that students from socioeconomically disadvantaged families score lower than students from more affluent homes. Most of my students face challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite these difficulties, I am endeavoring to create an environment for my students to foster the 21st Century Skills including collaboration, critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and innovation through creative and standard based learning experiences.
My students have different learning needs and requirements and offering them a choice in seating, is a great way for them to improve their academic learning.
It is my goal to help every student believe that they are able to accomplish anything they set their minds too, even if it is not in the same way!
About 80% of my students qualify for free or reduced lunches. They need to feel safe and encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning. Flexible seating offers a way for students to feel comfortable, leading to deeper understanding of the core content and creating life long learners.
My Project
Sitting in hard chairs for hours is just not comfortable. That's why my students need more seating options than the traditional chair. During the school day, my students can become restless and distracted. I do my best by providing them with frequent breaks during the day to get them up and moving. Although breaks can help with restlessness, it does cause unnecessary interruption time on learning.
Flexible seating options such as stability balls, stools, donut balls, folding chairs, and inflatable chairs will provide my students comfortable seating that will help them release excess energy which will then improve focus and participation.
These seating options will keep my students engaged by allowing them to move while they work. They will also encourage students to work more independently while staying motivated and most importantly comfortable while learning. Please help my students get the seating they need to help them access the rigorous curriculum more easily and less fidgety.
