This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach reading to two classes of 5th graders in Las Vegas. Many of the 60+ students I teach are English language learners living in a low income area. Regardless of the challenges they may face outside of school, they show up everyday with a smile on their face and an eagerness to learn in their hearts.

My students place great value on education and work hard to get the most out of school; both educationally and socially.

My students put in a lot of hard work and practice learning the English language and developing a love of reading!

My Project

Traditional classroom styles have evolved over the years from rows of desks to more collaborative seating. With this, there has been more research that proves when a student has a choice in seating styles it enables them to be more active in their learning, work with their peers better, and more than anything, feel a sense of decision making in how and where they choose to learn.

My students are always looking for more comfortable and less common options for seating and tend to work more efficiently when they have a choice other than a typical chair.

Many students also struggle to sit still for long periods and that interrupts their learning. Having flexible seating options like the ones in my project will provide students with the opportunity to spend more time learning in a comfortable environment where they have a choice of seating and also tools, like the wobble chairs, to keep them focused on their favorite book or lesson they are learning.
