This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher in a preschool room in a low-income school district, I recognize that my students are faced with challenges inside and outside of the classroom. Despite the many challenges that my students are facing, I strive to provide them with a fun, interactive, safe, and meaningful learning environment. As their teacher, I try to instill the importance of communicating/listening to one another, being a good citizen and leader, and using trauma-informed techniques to aide them in their social emotional development.
My students have various learning styles, backgrounds and needs.
Due to being located in an inner-city, funding is extremely hard to come by, and in order to provide my students with the best learning experiences I can give them, I typically find ways to procure these items and experiences out of pocket or by any means I can - which is where DonorsChoose.org comes in.
My Project
Flexible seating will help accommodate young, busy Pre-K student minds and bodies by providing seating options that allow them to be comfortable. Other seating will help active students be able to move around while they work and play but still help them focus and increase their work. Children who are comfortable in their classroom and have their needs supported perform better, have increased focus, increase task completion, and spend more time on their work. By providing flexible and comfort seating options, I hope to provide a safe, welcoming classroom that leaves a positive impact on every student's academic journeys as they grow.
