Flexible Seating: The 21st Century Classroom

My students need 6 wobble stools to help them stay engaged in their learning. An uncomfortable student is a distracted and unproductive student.

My Students

My 3rd-grade classroom includes 22 wonderful students! They are eager to learn and full of energy. They begin each day with a chant, "I came to school to learn and I will learn!" Their enthusiasm to learn is certainly something to see.

My students come from diverse backgrounds.

Approximately 55% of our school population qualifies for free and reduced-price lunch. Our school is also home to an English Language program. In addition, we are a school of choice focusing on the arts.

My Project

I am requesting 6 wobble stools. Students who have a choice in their seating are more successful in the classroom, both academically and behaviorally.

Children need to move.

Flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow, and core strength. In turn, this burns more calories and increases metabolism. It also helps keep young minds more alert and focused.

Research shows that learning environments can have a direct impact on student achievement and behavior. Flexible seating in my classroom will help me to meet the needs of my diverse classroom.
