Flexible Seating + Technology Tools = Enriched Minds and Bodies
My students need flexible seating options and new technology integration tools (tablets) that allow for their individual learning styles to shine through and become the rising stars they are capable of.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The diversity within my classroom and school as a whole represents a growing trend in our society; we could at minimum display over 64 different countries' flags if we represented each one. Their backgrounds are as extensive and varying, enriching our school for the better. Most of my students are learning English as a Second Language and for many, my classroom will be their first experience in a school. Setting the stage for a positive learning experience is what the early years of education are all about! It is my job as their teacher to facilitate their learning, to provide them with a safe place to learn, make mistakes, and grow.
My Project
My students come to school every day with a smile on their face and excited about learning. They love when we explore hands-on, student-centered projects, and movement in our lessons. They have a difficult time being able to attend and focus on tasks when they are uncomfortable. The addition of different seating options will allow for the freedom of choice and empowerment to take ownership of their learning space. Students will have the choice to sit at a lowered table, sit on a floor seat, or lay on pillows while working.
Comfort in their learning space will increase their attention and thereby set them up for success!
The addition of incorporating Amazon Fire Tablets into our classroom environment will unlock the learning potential of the students via a variety of avenues. Having mobile devices in a classroom enhances the flexible seating and environment of the classroom. It provides a new means of taking the children to places they may never visit through virtual field trips, interactive literacy and math activities, and opportunities for self-assessment. It will also give me, as the teacher, another means to assess my students in a more practical and real-time fashion.
