Help me give my students lap desks, butterfly stools and chairs, and wobble chairs so they may have the chance to do more collaborative work with this flexible seating!
Our school is situated in a rural/suburban area of our town. Since we are a Title I charter school, we have many students whose families are either financially challenged or who have learning disabilities, which are better handled in a small classroom and school environment. We provide bus transportation, which allows our school to draw from a wider population in our area.
Our students need 21st century options in the classroom.
This includes the ability to be seated in a way that will keep their attention on the task at hand.
My Project
Students want control. Unfortunately, as teachers, we can't give up all control, but why not give students the chance to control where they sit? Most jobs allow employees to personalize their office space. By turning my classroom into a flexible seating classroom, I will be giving my students the chance to personalize their learning.
I want my students to have a taste of the real world in the classroom.
When my students have the chance to choose where they will do their best learning, I hope to see more engagement in the lessons as well as more collaborative work with classmates.
By offering seating options such as a butterfly chair or a lap desk where students can relax, I hope to see them become more aware of how they learn and take the initiative to put themselves in the best place possible. Also, by providing seating where students can move (like the wobble chairs) I will be able to give students the chance to be more active during the day which can also aid in keeping students focused on a task.
By funding this project, you will be instrumental in helping kids learn that they do have control over their learning. Having this project funded will make our classroom the first full flexible seating classroom in our school. I hope to inspire other teachers to make a change for their students as well.
