This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach First Grade at a historically underserved and culturally diverse PK-5 school nestled in Northeast Portland. We are an International Baccalaureate (IB) and Mandarin Immersion school with many diverse learning opportunities for our students. It is this diversity that makes our school such a vibrant place for learning.
My students are curious, creative, and eager to learn.
They come from different backgrounds and welcome everyone into our community. They support, encourage, and challenge each other daily. They’re full of questions about the world and stories to tell from their own personal experiences.
Their love for learning can be seen as they set goals for themselves and persevere through challenging tasks.
My Project
Comfortable seating is imperative for focused learning. Sitting in a traditional desk chair works for some students, while it can be an uncomfortable distraction for others. All students need seating that is best for them and their needs.
Flexible seating gives students the freedom to choose a seat that is most successful for them.
Having a variety of seating choices for students on where they can sit or stand in a classroom is beneficial because it gives them agency when determining how they learn best. That is why I am requesting 12 wiggle seats for our classroom. The wiggle seats will allow the students who choose to use them the opportunity to wiggle comfortably while they focus on their learning. Thank you for supporting this project!
