First grade is a big year! It is the year you learn to read, write, and truly "do school". Academics are the focus of each day, and the children are truly becoming responsible for their own learning. Where the kids are becoming accustom to performing like a student, they are also faced with the challenge of learning what type of learner they are. They have to learn what they need as a learner to be successful. This is hard for a 6 year old to do. However; once they become aware of what they need as learners, it is like finding the pot of Gold!
Our inclusion first grade classroom consists of 23 adorable, and very active learners.
Due to their need to move while working we are implementing flexible seating. Flexible seating is a different type of working space other than a "typical desk". We have standing desks, 2 big exercise balls, and carpet/lap desks currently in use every day in our classroom. We would LOVE to offer our students a few other options. We would especially love to offer them wobble stools. Wobble stools offer a chance for movement, in a quiet manner, while still working.
My Project
Wobble chairs will offer my students the ability to focus while working. Wobble chairs move slightly, while the students stay in their space. They provide students with the ability to move while working, and help them remain focused on their work. When the students complete their work in a way they feel the best while learning, it promotes independence, as well as awareness of what they need as learners to be successful. This results in confident and successful learners, who will welcome any challenges they are faced with.
Wobble chairs will give my students the option of flexible seating, these stools will assist them in many ways (focus, movement breaks, and build confidence on independent work).
