Flexible Seating Solutions for All Learners

My Students

My students are energetic boys and girls who love to move and explore the world around them, like kids should! My students are from a district that receives free lunches for all students. We are in a school that has self-contained, but open, classrooms with no doors and partial walls. Students can hear so much of what is going on in other classrooms and hallways. They have to work hard to ignore those distractions and focus on their learning during the day. I would like to help provide my students with access to more resources that can maximize their learning and set them up for success now and in the future!

My Project

Students can have some choice with their seating to find something that works best for them to learn in an environment that is centered around them. They can use the wobble chairs and balance balls at their desks for seat work time. The floor seats can be used to move without being disruptive during carpet time. The lap desk can be used to write on during a carpet instruction time. Students learn self-control and are self-assessing to see if a seating option is helping or hindering their learning. They are aware that certain things will make a difference for their learning and learn how to adjust to make it most beneficial for themselves. They can apply these skills of self assessment to other parts of their academics and lives. There are a great number of students dealing with ADHD and need an outlet for excess energy. Many of these options give them a way for them to move without being disruptive. That gives all students an advantage to maxmizing learning time!
