This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are in a 12:1+1 special education classroom in the South Bronx. Many of my students have learning disabilities. The school is located in a high poverty area.
My students are faced with hardships everyday, yet they come to school eager to learn.
Despite obstacles put in their ways, my students strive to reach their potentials. School is their safe haven where I strive to provide them with all the knowledge I can with the resources that are available to me.
My Project
My classroom is filled with energetic special needs students who find it challenging to focus. I encourage a lot of movement and empower my students to have a choice in the activities they do and where they work.
By having alternative seating in my classroom, students are free to make a choice of which seating arrangement is best for their learning.
I currently have four wobble stools, but am in need of more seating options. My students struggle sitting still at a traditional student desk and chair. My classroom is in need of more flexible seating options like Big Joe bean bag chairs, two balance balls, two Instride Folding desk cycles, and four yoga mats, in order to increase productivity and focus among my students. I know that my students will be excited and work harder with more seating options.
