Flexible Seating Promotes Community, Health, Choice, and Commitment to Learning
Help me give my students empowerment in flexible seating options, including cushions and bean bags, they can choose from. I want my students to wiggle down in their seats to promote flow to the brain and increase their focus in the classroom.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I want to implement flexible seating as a classroom management strategy in my classroom. I believe flexible seating not only helps students be more comfortable in the classroom but empowers them to choose a seat and being held with that responsibility. There is also research to show that letting students wiggle in their seats help promote oxygen flow to the brain and increases their drive to focus.
There are many pros to flexible seating such as using it to create a class community.
With this flexible seating, they need to learn to communicate and collaborate with each other to learn patience in taking turns. The seating setup is designed for easier collaboration and group/partner work.
Lastly, it adds a fun element in the classroom to make them happy and excited to come to school to try a new seat and love to learn while being comfortable.
