My class this year is made up of students with a lot of different backgrounds. All of my students have potential and I love it when they realize how much potential they have. I have a high number of students with special needs. One-third of my class is made up of ELL (English Language Learners) students. The majority of my students come from low income families. No matter what their background is, they all come to school looking for a place to feel safe and loved and I am the person they count on to provide that.
My Project
Research shows that there are many immediate benefits to flexible seating. Thanks to a past funded DonorsChoose project, my students have the opportunity to use rugs and scoop chairs. I would like to allow them more flexible seating options throughout the classroom for reading and other tasks.
Allowing first graders flexible seating helps me to accommodate all my learners so they can maximize their learning.
When students are given a choice and movement they are more engaged when learning.
I have witnessed the positive changes in our classroom since implementing flexible seating so I'm excited to see what changes these additional seating options will provide.
