Help me give my students a flexible seating option through a classroom rug. My students need to be able to move while in the classroom, as all of our specials are on cart and come to the classroom.
Hello! My school is located in a small, rural town in North Carolina. My school is a Title I school, along with every school in our community. No money is provided for classroom resources and this is my 6th year teaching. I’m being moved to 3rd grade after spending 6 years in 1st grade. My students are faced with a lot of economic struggles at home. I want to give them every possible advantage while they're at school with me! Several of my students struggle with ADHD, Autism, and cognitive disorders.
My Project
A classroom rug will allow my 3rd grade students an opportunity to move from their chair several times per day. This is still extremely important even with 3rd grade students since they are still 8-9 years old. Third grade is a huge jump from k-2 and it can be a stressful time for some students especially with the addition of EOG testing, so I want their learning environment to be as conducive to learning as it can possibly be.
Unfortunately, our school is at mass capacity and we have run out of classrooms.
Sadly, this means that all specials(art, music, guidance) are forced to work off of carts and come to the classroom each day. This means that students will not have many chances to leave the room each day, so I want to allow as much movement in the classroom as possible. I will use the rug as a place to do lessons, and it will also serve as a place students can go to read a book independently or with a friend.
