Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in East New York, Brooklyn and serves Pre-K to 5th grade. The majority of young learners at our New York City school receive free and reduced lunch. Our first-grade class is made up of 21 goofy, kind, and bright students who come from mostly bilingual homes.
Not only are the students exciting to be around, they are also the most hardworking first graders who act daily as change-makers, bringing a multicultural lens into the classroom.
As their teacher, I strive every day to motivate my students to achieve their highest potential through music and imagination!
My Project
My students love to read, however there are limited options of places in our room where students can truly get comfortable and enjoy a great book.
These bean bags will not directly teach my students' new skills, but they will allow my students to feel like our classroom is an inviting space in which they can feel at home while engaging in content.
I picture various students cozied up to a picture book and feeling comfortable in their learning environment. I picture them excited about the opportunity to settle in somewhere in our classroom that isn't their desk. Being able to gift my students with these items would truly create a new, inviting space in our classroom!
