Ms. Paine from Bloomfield CT is requesting flexible seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students flexible seating options- memory foam bean bags, and floor cushions for our low table.

“Classrooms need to look different from how they did one hundred years ago, but we’re still seeing rows and rows of desks. The skills students need these days – 21st Century skills – can’t really be taught properly in a classroom where you have created islands of desks,” Kayla Delzer (3rd grade teacher).
We are a third and fourth grade school that serves a community of students who are incredible learners and full of wonder.
Over the course of eight years, our students have proven to be very successful with the implementation of our new units of study, and have effectively closed the achievement gap in third grade! Our curriculum is connected throughout the day and is based on the belief that students need to be "doing" not just sitting. Our units are based in science and social studies, and allow for inquiry based learning and field experiences. Students spend their days researching, questioning, and exploring on a local and global level.
My students need more flexible seating options! We are working to create an environment where students can find a comfortable space that suits their individual learning needs.Flexible seating provides students with the opportunity to choose a comfortable space that best suits their individual learning needs.
Do you enjoy sitting at a desk for 6-8 hours a day?
Neither do 8 and 9 year olds!
Flexible seating is one way to reengage our students in the active learning that should be taking place in classrooms. This project is the third phase of transforming our classroom into a learning space that students can truly enjoy. When provided with choice, students are challenged to think about what their individual learning needs really are. Putting this responsibility into their hands is just one step towards creating a future of workers who know what and how they operate best.
