Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are relentless learners and are curious about everything! They are children with moderate to severe autism and they learn best by using manipulatives and various items that they can touch, see, feel and hear. They live in a very supportive community but it is also very economically challenged and my school's resources are limited.

It is a true privilege to teach these kids and provide them with experiences that are entirely new to them at school.

They are able to access learning in ways that help them grow and develop educationally, emotionally and socially. Each day is a new learning journey for all of us!

My Project

Imagine being 5, 6 or 7 years old and having to sit in a hard, plastic chair all day! That's a pretty difficult ask even for kids in the general curriculum. My students have severe autism, they require several movement breaks during the day to help them to focus their attention.

Having seating options like the balance balls and balance stools will help them to self regulate and focus.

They will still be participating in small group and individual activities and lessons, but the need for so many breaks will diminish.
