Mrs. Thomas from Columbia SC is requesting flexible seating through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students the flexibility to be who they are and give them choice seating to learn in the way that helps them best!

My students are amazing -- they are some of the most thoughtful, energetic, and brilliant students I have ever met! My students come from all backgrounds, which is what makes them awesome. Our school is also 100% free and reduced lunch. Although I am requesting these tools for the students coming to me this next school year, these resources will be used for years to come.
Students need to be able to make decisions for their best learning choice, and I'm hoping to be able to share the resources outlined in this project so that I can give my students the flexibility that they desire.
Desks are great, but they aren't always the most conducive for teamwork and cooperative learning, which studies have shown is the best way for students to learn.
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times, they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently, most of my students are sitting or laying on the floor with a clipboard as part of their independent time. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk.
My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work.
The items I've selected are easily movable which will allow students to change locations and get into groups easily without disruption. It will also give students an opportunity to put them in a location where they best learn while keeping them safe.
I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
