My students are creative, imaginative, thoughtful, hardworking, and curious! They love hands-on, active, engaging lessons, projects and challenges that allow them to work cooperatively, problem solve, persevere, and be innovative! They come to school each day ready to try new things, take risks, and learn from their mistakes in order to grow both personally and academically. My students are a true inspiration to me. Their curiosity and willingness to try new things makes me a better teacher.
"If a child can't learn the way we teach, then perhaps we should teach the way they learn." Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although how they go about it varies greatly.
In our classroom, I incorporate a variety of learning strategies, teaching methods, as well as alternative/flexible seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are!
I am blessed to have this privilege of educating young people and helping them to achieve their personal bests each day.
My Project
Alternative seating allows students make the choices that have them working in places that is best for their learning. They choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, on bean bags, or sitting or laying on the floor with a clip board or lap desk. Giving students options and ownership of how and where they learn best is an essential component in motivating them in 5th grade. When students are given a choice in their seating, I notice that effort, attention and focus, and overall performance improves. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk.
Every student CAN learn, just not always in the same way or in the same way every day!
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them standing alternative seating options to make more effective learning choices for themselves. The standing desk provides options for students who prefer to stand when learning or working. They are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom.
With just a few options in place last year, I have already seen how seating choice can positively affect my students' work, focus, and engagement. I look forward to providing even more opportunities for them in the upcoming school year.
