I teach in a STEM/PBL highly encouraged elementary school. My goal is to provide hands-on experiences on a daily basis in all subject areas. My students are highly motivated by STEM and PBL opportunities. They love collaborating and the ability to choose a spot in the room where their creative juices will flow the best! My students surprise me everyday with their STEM designs and answers to real-world problems. They have shown me that they work best when they have the ability to choose their work space.
My Project
The products I chose will allow students to take ownership of their own learning. I am a big proponent of student voice and choice. I have found after ten years of teaching that my students produce their best work when they are given the opportunity to move around the room, choose how they want to demonstrate their understanding, and collaborate. Right now the flexible seating options I have in my classroom are limited to stools around a kidney table and various carpets throughout the room. I would love to give my students more seating options and I believe flexible seating will lead to highly motivated 21st century thinkers!
