Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from a low socioeconomic neighborhood in Las Vegas, which results in little to none of the basic supplies being provided for them. My 4th graders have big personalities and bid ideas! Regardless of their backgrounds, my students come to school with a smile on their face, ready to learn together.
Although research shows living in a low socioeconomic neighborhood correlates to lower educational achievement, my students are the exception.
My 4th graders have disapproved research results the moment they walk in the door, ready to learn! They are eager learners, thinkers, and extremely curious of the world around them. The students show such strong motivation and willingness to learn and will eventually be our doctors, scientists, engineers, and very likely our next office officials. Our future needs support, and one way is to provide them with the essentials necessary for their success!
My Project
Chair bands and dry erase clipboards help all students become actively engaged in the classroom.
The bands also give students an active outlet that limit distractions and disruptions during our learning and class time.
The chair bands will allow students to stay focused at their seats during instruction time. Students attention span will improve and distractions will decrease. The dry erase boards can be considered flexible seating by allowing students to find an area around the classroom that best work for them. The dry erase boards also work as a hard surface area they can use to brainstorm and work out math problems.
Students will be much more motivated to sit through lessons with the chair bands and eager to get to work knowing that they can find a space around the classroom to work, instead of feeling restricted to a desk and chair.
