Flexible Seating Keeps Everyone Learning!

Help me give my students the ability to have flexible seating options in my classroom by funding standing tables and low tables. These table options allow my students that are unable to work sitting another choice.

My Students

I have been teaching K - 2 for 28 years now. I currently teach in a first grade classroom with a variety of different types of students with a variety of different learning styles. One thing that I have noticed in the many years of teaching experience that I have, is the change in students ability to sit still and focus. Due to this, it is more and more important for there to be other options for students than the typical desk and chairs. Many classrooms are moving to flexible seating arrangements. This might include a variety of seating and/or table options. This allows those students that might need to stand, kneel or sit on the floor to do that. I currently have many students that choose to do those things. However, I don't have the proper furniture to allow them to do it comfortably.

I am requesting donations to be able to purchase tables that are at various levels enabling students to sit on the floor or stand and work.

This provides those students, that are struggling to sit in a chair and focus, other options that might better suit their needs.

Flexible Seating Increases Student Engagement

Breaking up traditional rows of desks in a classroom fosters collaboration and allows kids to think about and choose what type of learning environment work best for them.

Having an array of table choices from standing tables to traditional tables to low tables allows students to make a seating choice that best suits their learning/movement style.

There is proven research that flexible seating increases student engagement and collaboration. Allowing students to figure out what makes the best learning environment for them empowers students to become their best selves as learners and active members of a school community.
